Many of the old antiques pieces we have today are rare finds that have been lovingly handed down. They add a gentle beauty to any decor in their simplicity and bring a coziness of the past to our homes of today. Unfortunately, most antique pieces show their age and with time, many may need to be repaired. If you are handy, quite often you can do some of the simple repair work on your own. With a few tools basic tools, and little bit of instruction, you can tackle minor repairs easily and quite inexpensively.

First you need to identify where the problem areas are. Many items may only have minor cosmetic damage that is relatively easy to remove. You may find that you like the look of time that has left its mark on your piece or you may choose to take it to a professional for a complete overhaul. The choice is yours and depends on the value of the piece and your connection with it. It may be worthwhile to have it seen by a professional if it is of considerable value.

Minor Repairs

With many antiques, you will find them comprised completely of wood although some may have had veneers added. You will need to determine what type of piece you have before you can begin.

Moisture rings are very common, and you need to know how to remove these without causing any damage the surface of the wood. These rings tend to be white and can be removed fairly well with a chemical called amalgamator. You can purchase this at any home improvement center. Dampen a soft cloth with the solution and apply it sparingly without rubbing. Dab the surface pressing gently so that the solution can penetrate into the stain. If the treatment does not seem to be working, repeat the process waiting a few minutes in between applications.

If the stain is persistent you can gently sand the surface. Start with the softest steel wool available then switch to 600-grit sandpaper if you require more effort to remove the stain. You can dampen the sandpaper in a little soapy water which will act as a lubricant but remember to be gentle.

It is usually easy to fix minor scratches and shallow nicks on wooden surfaces. You can use gel stains, liquid stains and pencil stains all depending on the nature if the repair. Choose the colour closest to the original stain and mix several if need be until you get the one that matches the best. It’s also very important to use clean, lint free cloths for all steps.

First, clean the wooden surface carefully to remove any dust or dirt.
Apply the stain using a soft cloth making sure to cover the entire scratched surface.
Applying the stain and immediately wipe off the excess using a clean cloth.
Allow the surface to dry for 24 hours.
Finally, apply a new finish to match the rest of the piece.

For more difficult stains and burns, you may need to consider refinishing. Always keep in mind that with any major refinishing work, the original value of the piece may be affected. Talk to a professional to help you decide if your piece is worth the expense and potential loss in value.

Larger Repairs

After the piece has been stripped, you can attempt a wood bleach to remove any residual stains.
Again, you can remove the more difficult stains using steel wool and sandpaper, gradually increase the coarseness as your progress for best results. The next step is to apply stain using a brush or soft cloth.
After the recommended drying time, apply the finish.

Gone are the days of mini mansions, house plan trends of 2012 are designed in the realm of minimalism and clean lines. The labels “green living” and “going green” are no longer challenging amenities to strive for. The house plan trends of today suggest a more toned down approach to a home with dwellings that are more practical for work, living, and sometimes extended family.

Architects weigh the cost effectiveness of floor plans with green qualities and energy efficiency. Builders continue to recommend solar energy and geothermal energy options but the underlying objective is on getting the most value for the buck.

Instead of being an amenity “green” building has become a more mandatory approach for architects as they conceptualize green house plans which are more energy efficient for the future homeowners.

Along with the push for green another major building trend in 2012 is the merging of outside space with the rest of the home. Homeowners want to socialize not only in their home but also in the outdoor space around their home. They are seeking out home plans that feature designs that incorporate the idea.

Home development has also highlighted a greater emphasis on the family room as families seek out more togetherness and bonding space. At the same time many of these home plans are being designed with extra rooms quartered off from the rest of the home to create privacy and accommodate multi-generational families living under the same roof. There is a trend in adult children remaining in the home longer and aging parents moving in with their children.

When you are choosing the perfect bedroom furniture, you want your choices to match the decor you have in the rest of your home. Your bedroom furniture is the foundation of the overall look of your bedroom. If you want a bedroom functional, as well as beautiful, make sure you choose furniture that’s of the right size, type and design. Also, you should arrange each piece in a way that suits your room’s design and your activities. How do you do all these properly? Here are some ideas to help you.

First of all, you must consider your lifestyle and your activities. Do you consider your room only as a sleeping area? Or do you want it to be not just a bedroom, but also a reading room as you are a book lover? Do you need to have a desk in your room where you’ll check your e-mail messages? Are you a TV fan that you need to watch late-night talk shows to help put you to sleep? Will your bed be your meeting place with your kids every weekend mornings?

Of course, even if you want a king-size bed, you cannot just order one if you have a small square of a room. The size of your bedroom furniture should obviously be in proportion to the size of your room. So, take your measuring tape and write down the dimensions of your room. You might want to even measure the height from floor to ceiling if you plan to buy a chandelier or a four-poster bed. If you’ve you could already think of the things you’ll buy, measure the area where you think you should place them. In this way, you can already limit your choices according to size and lessen your chance of being overwhelmed with the selections in stores. If you can, bring a floor plan and pictures of your bedroom when shopping for furniture.

Organizing your bedroom furniture really depends on how you want to have access to every piece. Your bed is always the ideal focal point of the room. Know first how you want your bed to look like in your room before arranging all the other pieces to complement it. Usually when arranging furniture in your room, you’ll find it easy if you go from the biggest piece to the smallest.

Lastly, don’t forget to accessorize your room. Decors, drapes and accessories may be optional matters, but they’re usually the ones that make the big difference in the design and aura of your bedroom. They’re the items that complete the distinctive personality of your bedroom.

Bedworld.net, has become one of the UK’s leading on-line retailers for beds, mattresses and Memory Foam Mattresses. Bedworld paved the way for sales of bedroom furniture on the internet.

1. Choose the right grit for sanding drywall. Different individuals have their own strategies that require different abrasion levels for sanding drywall. Remember that the coarser the grit that is used, the more evident the tracking is going to be. Anything less than 120 grit should be used rather gently to prevent surface scratches. The average grit used is 100 as this is enough to sand the mud compound effectively and will decrease the chance of scratching. Some may use a medium 80 grit, but this is more rare as it takes a great deal more work.

2. Whenever drywall work has been done, change your HVAC filters. Sheetrock dust can cause significant harm to your HVAC system, therefore it ought to be kept in check as much as possible by changing the furnace and ac filters so that they are fresh, clean, and minimizing the dust flowing through.

3. Use carpet or wooden flooring in the bedroom. Your bedroom should have a warm and comforting feel – something that tile, vinyl, stone (like marble or granite), linoleum can rarely accomplish (particularly when you step out of bed during the cold months). Carpeting is great for a bedroom because it is soft and feels pleasant to step down upon when you’re getting up. Hardwood is a great option if you don’t want carpet because of the natural, warm feeling it brings a room.underfoot.

4. Insulate the rest of your residence. Wherever possible, add additional insulation to your home. If you’re already taking flooring or ceilings out, go ahead and take the opportunity to add some more padding. Flooring makes it possible for 15 percent of your heating or cooling to escape, while walls can lose close to 35 percent.

5. Use a plastic bag to line your paint tray. Cleaning paint trays is often a nuisance and a time intensive effort. By lining yours with a plastic bag, when you’re done, you can simply invert the bag and pitch it in the trash, saving an enormous amount of cleanup time and effort.

6. Consider demolition to be its own project. Just as you think of plumbing, electrical work, or new kitchen cabinetry installation to be a project, so should you think of the demolition that way. It’s something that needs to be budgeted, prepared for, and concluded before you proceed to the next step. Don’t just think of it as prep work for something else. Give it its own attention and focus. This will help to ensure that you do it right, save money by making the right choices for it (without simply lumping it in with other projects) and save time by scheduling it independently.

Home landscape designs and ideas are so many. You could decide to follow the path that suits you best. You have a world of option and the best part is that you need not stick to any laid down rules. Go ahead take a chance and be as creative as you wish with your design, incorporating many ideas into the final product.

With a little planning and alot of creativity your visions of a beautiful landscape can be achieved.

To save yourself more unwanted work it would be best to draw the design out on paper first. Don’t worry if you aren’t an artist, a rough sketch will do the trick.
It will save yourself time by ripping out and rearranging your landscaping ideas.

When you are planning your new front or backyard the main thing that you want to do is make sure that all of the plants, shrubs, or trees you are planning on using compliment each other. You wouldn’t want your newly constructed landscape to look like a big collection of mismatched creations. The idea is to add value to your home, and make it more inviting to your visitors.

An important factor to great landscape designs is finding something that catches everyone’s attention, which will become the focal point in your design. You may want something that is extraordinary or maybe something simple, but ultimately eye catching. Choose something that gives your garden or landscape a warm and inviting feel for all those who grace it. A couple good examples are an arbor or large planter.

Another great way to bring peacefulness and attention to your space is to add water gardens or ponds. If you are wishing to install one of these magnificent eye catchers, you should shop around and find the best idea and products that fit your situation but keep in mind that there may be more maintenance with this, depending on how you proceed with it.

There are some other excellent places to find even more great ideas. Browsing in a magazine, books, or on the internet are terrific places to start. You can also look at other landscaped designs to help you come up with that perfect layout you are searching for. You may want to take pictures of different designs throughout your community and incorporate your favorite looks into one magnificent design. Talk to your neighbors if they have something in their yard that you envy.

If you are planning on designing and constructing the landscape yourself remember to leave yourself time for creativity. You will undoubtedly think of things to add when you are partially through the project. By taking the extra time you will make your home into a place that you can enjoy, and show with extra pride knowing that you created it yourself. The last thing you want to think when you are finished is that you wish you could’ve added something else.

Ideas4Landscaping creates exotic and fascinating landscapes around your home that would be the envy of your neighbours following one of these amazing and exotic profiles. With Ideas4Landscaping , You’ll gain thousands of high-quality landscaping designs and instructions so you won’t have to settle for the limited , mediocre , and typical designs you see on magazines or on a lot of websites. Designs for your front yard, backyard, & garden. so you can easily create landscaping plans for anywhere around your house.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what couples should know before they get married. For one thing, I’ve been making some updates and revisions on FamilyLife’s Preparing for Marriage workbook, which is used by thousands of pastors and counselors around the country each year for premarriage counseling. In addition, my younger daughter, Missy, was married recently. As a parent you think of all the things you should tell a child before marriage, and nothing ever seems to be enough.

#1: Marriage is not all about you. It’s not about your happiness and self-fulfillment. It’s not about getting your needs met. It’s about going through life together and serving God together and serving each other. It’s about establishing a family. It’s about committing your lives to each other even though you may be very different in 10, 20, or 40 years from the people you are now.

#2: You are about to learn a painful lesson—you are both very selfish people. This may be difficult to comprehend during the happy and hazy days of courtship, but it’s true, and it shocks many couples during their first years of marriage. It’s important to know this revelation of selfishness is coming, because then you can make adjustments for it, and you will be a lot better off.

#3: The person you love the most is also the person who can hurt you the deepest. That’s the risk and pain of marriage. And the beauty of marriage is working through your hurt and pain and resolving your conflicts and solving your problems.

#4: You can’t make it work on your own. It’s obvious that marriage is difficult—just look at how many couples today end in divorce. This is why it’s so critical to center your lives and your marriage on the God who created marriage. To make your marriage last for a lifetime, you need to rely on God for the power and love and strength and wisdom and endurance you need.

#5: Never stop enjoying each other. Always remember that marriage is an incredible gift to be enjoyed. Ecclesiastes 9:9 says, “Enjoy life with the woman whom you love all the days of your fleeting life which He has given to you under the sun; for this is your reward in life and in your toil in which you have labored under the sun.”

Enjoy the little things of life with your spouse: the food you enjoy together at home or in restaurants … the movies you like … the little inside jokes nobody else understands except for you … the times you make each other laugh … the games you play together.

And focus on making memories together: Plan special dates and weekend getaways. Make sure you reserve time for each other after you have kids. When you are old, you won’t look back and remember how great it was to buy that new furniture or watch that great show on television. You’re going to remember what you did together and saw together and created together.

How about you? If you were talking to an engaged couple about what you wish you’d known before marriage, what would you say? Write down your thoughts in the comments section below.

Landscape design is very important when one wants to get the items to achieve a great look because one has to get the ones that blend in well without a problem. This helps to ensure that nothing looks out of place and you can enjoy using the equipment that is placed there. There are very many options one has when it comes to garden furniture thus all you have to do is take your time to get the best.

This usually involves a lot or research on your part to find out the various brands and styles that are available in the market to help you pick the ones you feel will serve their purpose effectively. If you do not know much about landscape design, there is no need to worry as there are many professionals out there you can consult with to get expert advice. All you have to do is find one that has a good reputation so that you can enjoy the services they have to offer without any regrets. You can also get a lot of information online from various people to help you make a wise decision.

Some of the factors that need to be put into consideration when looking for garden furniture include the size as you have to make sure they fit in well and look good instead of looking funny. Pick items that have been made from high quality material as they are likely to serve you for a long period of time. You should also look at the finish to ensure that it is done in the right way to get a great product. Take good care of the items by cleaning them in the correct way and protecting them from too much sun and rain.
